Why this response exists
Uganda hosts one of the largest refugee populations in Africa, with families settled among host communities rather than closed camps. Settlement names, arrival numbers and district partners need to be confirmed.

What the programme aims to achieve
- Improve refugee households' access to accurate health and hygiene information.
- Strengthen community-based protection and referral pathways for women, children and people with disabilities.
- Build employable and income-generating skills for young refugees and host-community youth.
What we actually do
- Community health awareness sessions on hygiene, maternal health and disease prevention.
- Protection and safeguarding orientation for community volunteers and youth groups.
- Vocational and livelihood training with follow-up mentoring.
- Psychosocial support groups facilitated by trained community counsellors.

Protection standards for this programme
Safeguarding is a condition of every activity, not an add-on.
- All trainers complete safeguarding induction before working with participants.
- Sessions with children take place in open, supervised community spaces.
- Any concern is reported through the safeguarding hub reporting route.
